Introduce relief packages: Hoteliers
KATHMANDU, September 13

Hoteliers today urged the government to introduce relief packages to improve the financial condition of the hotels that are struggling for survival. They also demanded that the government take necessary measures to give morantorium of two years for the hotels to pay the loans that they have borrowed from the commercial banks.

Narendra Bajracharya, President of Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN) said that at a time when hotels are failing to meet operational cost, the government should announce special packages for their improvement. Also the cancellation has come as a serious blow to the entrepreneurs while advent of peak season is in the corner.

 
 
 
Tourism sector condemns killing of Nepalis in Iraq
KATHMANDU, September 5

Various tourism industry related groups condemned the hideous and brutal killing of 12 innocent Nepali youths in Iraq by an extremist militant group.

Nepal Association of Travel Agents (NATA), Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN) and Board of Airlines Representatives in Nepal (BARN) condemned the murder of the Nepali youths.

In a separate press release, HAN has condemned the brutal murder of 12 innocent Nepalis and asked the government to provide adequate compensation to the bereaved families. It has criticized the government’s lackadaisical attitude towards providing security on time. The attack at the offices of Qatar Airways, Pakistan International Airlines, Gulf Air and Everest Hotel, would have its negative impact to the tourism industry.

 
 
 
Rural tourism comes of age
KATHMANDU, July 28

Starting from Ghandruk, followed by Sirubari and Ghalegaon, the wave of rural tourism has gradually begun to spread across the country. Development of natural cultural and social heritage to promote tourism can be found in almost all villages.

Abourt 60% tourists visiting Nepal would like to go to rural areas. If tourists can be taken to various villages their stay will prolong. But his needs widespread participation by people.

Ghandruk in Kaski district is recognized as the first model village as far as village tourism is considered. Actually, the Gurungs serving in the British army while returning home on leave, used to bring their British friends which introduced Ghandruk as a tourist destination to the world. With the gradual influx of tourists, there has been big changes in the economic and social status of people of Ghandruk. As the number of tourists started increasing, villagers opened hotels, lodges and restaurants in their houses.
