Japan-Nepal
NGO conference begins
KATHMANDU, August 25
The third Japan-Nepal NGO conference kicked off with
a view to promote capacity building and strengthening
NGO network to expedite work in rural areas. The three
day conference was organized by Nippon NGO Network
for Nepal (4N) in association with Japan International
Cooperation Agency (JICA), Nepal.
Addressing the function, Kiyosawa Fukashi, chairman
of 4N, underscored the need to review both government
and donors’ policies, prioritizing ‘real
needs’ of targeted beneficiaries. Government
and development partners should increase assistance
to remote areas and should reach the poorest of
the poor groups. He also pointed out the need for
diversifying NGO assistance and Official Development
Assistance (ODA) in a dynamic way that could address
the complexities in the developing world. There
is a need to have both short and long-term plans,
encompassing the realities of geo-political as well
as socio-economic situation.
Kenichi Ohasi, country director of World Bank,
Nepal Office said that NGOs should expedite and
expand their activities to rural hinterlands.
